Feedback to facilitators on their tutorial facilitation

NB comments are given anonymously by classmates - handwritten on sheets of paper placed in an envelope and typed up my me and returned via email to the facilitators.  The example below is provided with the permission of the 2003 pair of facilitators who ran this class.

Preparation

-         was difficult to associate the reading with the questions that were given

-         clearly very well-prepared -- good knowledge base

-         good influence of comprehensively reading the required material

-         were well-prepared with many prewritten summaries and explanations

-         good example used from the readings

-         very well-prepared -- drew important facts from the reading -- wide reading evident.  But I didn't think the readings appropriate to some of the questions asked.  Had to look elsewhere to get the answers.

Getting underway / organisation  & communication

-         very good clear instructions and explanation of objectives

-         instructions could have been clearer

-         very confident and well spoken

-         seemed confident by the end of the tutorial

-         goals, aims and procedure of exercise were clearly stated

-         well explained task for the tutorial but the one page summary task wasn't entirely clear

-         tutorial activities were clearly explained in the introduction of the tutorial

Managing the workshop / structural elements

-         questions sometimes stifled by disinterest

-         no questions allowed

-         the last exercise wasn't very environmental policy and planning related

-         very creative role play

-         they tried to prompt us a lot, sometimes it was a little draconian

-         instructions given were clear and activities were neatly organised

-         activities related directly to the one page questions.  This made it easy to get all involved in discussion

-         no real time for questions

Managing the workshop / discussion elements

-         did an excellent job making sure everybody had input

-         well focused on EPP issues

-         well balanced views

-         a good combination of both large and small group exercises to allow different modes of interaction

-         clearly well structured tutorial

-         kept emphasis on EPP well

-         pre-written summaries left little room for flexibility relating to discussions brought up in the tutorial -- more on the day summaries might have been better

-         well summed up

-         they did a good job considering the difficulties of the topic

General comments

-         sometimes talked a lot and made it difficult to focus on the task -- had to be brought back to it.  Good answers of questions in small groups

-         role play evoked interesting issues regarding the rights of indigenous people in environmental policy and planning

-         I liked their handout that clearly convey a message about cultural -- language problems

-         good at getting everyone's input
